Pinecone Bats

For this project, you will need liquid glue, a black marker, construction or card stock paper in white and a different color for the wings, and a scissor.

Take the wing colored paper and draw out your wings and some ears. Cut them out. Take the white paper and cut out two teeth. Glue the pinecone to the wings, it may take some time to dry and might need to be pressed down a bit. Glue the teeth and ears onto the pinecone and draw eyes with the marker.

Family Story Time at the library

This was our last week of Family Story Time! We will take a break in September and pick it back up again in October. Stay tuned for the registration link for our next series (October-December). We will continue offering the same Story Time on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10:30am. This allows you to pick the best day for your schedule. See you in October!

Printed Paper

For this craft, you will need tin foil, a spray bottle of water, a piece of paper, and washable markers. Your paper and tin foil size are dependent on how big you want your print to be.

First, take the tin foil and lay it out—color over it with markers. Then spray with your spray bottle on top of the tin foil where you colored. Lay your paper face down on top and press. Lift it up and see how the design turned out. Let it dry. You can leave it as is or go back in and draw something, using it as a background.

Craft Stick Friendship Puzzles

For this craft, you will need paint or markers.

Set all your craft sticks together so they are touching. Draw a design that goes over all three sticks. You can also work together with your friends. When you are done, take them apart and give two away to friends, keeping one for yourself. You can use them as a bookmark and when you put them all together they complete the design!

Coffee Filter Monsters

For this craft, you will need two coffee filters, google-eyes, washable markers and a spray bottle ( or dropper), a scissor, glue, and some construction paper.

Take your coffee filters and stack them evenly atop each other. Color the top one in different colors with your markers. The next step is to spray them down with water. The key is to use enough water to bleed the colors but not too much that they are sopping wet. Let your filters dry.

Once they are dry, you will glue only the centers together, but leave the filters a bit off-kilter, so they are not lined up 100% perfectly. Then take your scissor and cut fringes around the filters. Cut 4 strips out of the construction paper for arms and legs. Accordion fold them and then unfold and glue them in between the filters. Glue on the google-eyes and draw a mouth.

Foam Mosaic

You will need a small piece of white cardstock paper, different colors of foam, glue ( if it doesn’t have sticker backing), and a scissor. If you need to draw out your design first, a pencil might be helpful too. All you need to do is cut the foam pieces into shapes and use them to make a mosaic design. If they have a sticker on the back, peel and stick, otherwise glue them down. Arrange your pieces, stick them on, and you are finished!

Sponge Soakers

For this craft you will need a scissor, two sponges, and a string.

Take your sponges and cut them into 4 equal (as close as you can get) strips going the long way. Once you have them cut you will stack them on top of each other. So you will end up with 4 strips on the bottom and 4 on top. You can alternate colors if you want to.

Then take your string and tie them in the middle very tightly. Knot it off and cut any excess string off.

As you do this the sponges will transform into a ball shape. Spread the pieces out to your liking.

To use your sponge soaker, just soak in water and throw! You can use them in place of water balloons.

Rainbow Fish

For this craft you will need a coffee filter, scissor, aluminum foil, glue, and either washable markers and a spray bottle of water or watercolors.

First, either using watercolors or washable markers, decorate your coffee filter. If using spray bottle method just color your filter with the markers and then spray with water to let the colors bleed. Once it dries, cut it into a fish shape. You can fold the filter in half and cut to make one similar to the picture. Then glue on pieces of aluminum foil.

Flying Fish Craft

All you need for this craft is some cardstock paper, markers to decorate your paper, and a scissor.

Take your strip and decorate it. Then you will cut two marks with your scissor. You will cut them about an inch from the end, but do not cut all the way through to the other side, only cut about halfway. They will be on opposite sides too. See the picture below.

Then fold the paper and connect the slits you cut to make the fish. Throw it and see what it does!
